Overview

The Edanverse is a world that has existed for centuries. The history of the world can be divided into three major periods: the Era of the Gods, the Era of War, and the Modern Era. The time period that characters are set in is the Modern Era, an era characterized by the intermingling of the different cultures and new forms of technology and magic. But with all its benefits, the new era presents plenty of challenges to all that reside within Edan...

Era of the Gods

The Era of the Gods covers the origins of the Edanverse and the time period in which the Triad of Gods roamed the world alongside their creations. There are very little physical remains of this Era, with many ancient artifacts disappearing alongside their creator. Nowadays, the Era of the Gods is treated more so as a mythos than history amongst the populace of Edan.

Three siblings, known as the Triad of Gods, are born into an empty world known as the Edanverse. The oldest, Empyr, created the sun and the skies, giving their siblings a place to exist in. The middle child, Di, created the major continent of Edan and the seas of Meer. Finally, the youngest and prankster of the trio, Sphaira, scattered stars across the skies and life across the earth and seas.

Using each other's creations, the three siblings proceeded to create the six species of Edan: Empyr created the Yangwai and Jovenes, Di created the Sylphs and Meeren, and Sphaira created the Aesht'fritun and Etoilanges. For many years after, the six species and three Gods cohabitated together on the continent of Edan.

However, Empyr soon grew displeased with how the lands of Edan were divided between the species and began stealing stealing from their siblings' territories. A large city was built in the heart of Edan dedicated to Empyr, known as the Empyre. This city was restricted to only the Yangwai and Jovenes, who were forced to deliver weekly sacrifices to the greedy Empyr.

Seeing their sibling act in such a manor made Di angry and heartbroken. They recruited Sphaira to seal Empyr away in the farthest regions of Edan. Together, alongside a fleet of Meeren and Etoilanges, the two siblings were able to lock Empyr away and free the Yangwai and Jovenes.

Saddened by the rift between her siblings, Sphaira forsook her Godly abilities to become an Etoilange. Due to her past as a God, the other Etoilanges began to follow her around as their de facto leader. Using this, Sphaira built the "floating continent", Kumo. For the rest of her mortal life, she lived in the Northernmost region of Kumo, isolated from the rest of the world.

Following their beloved sister's death, Di decided to become a nomad of the universe. It is unknown where Di has gone.

Era of War

The Era of War began shortly after the last God, Di, left Edan. With tensions already high between the six species, the disappearance of the last God caused the animosity to boil over, starting with the major continent splintering into two pieces: what is now known as Greater Edan and Diyu. The six species began splitting off into several major factions that would battle for control over Greater Edan for the better part of the next century.

The year following the departure of Di was officially recognized as Year 0 of the New Era (0 N.E.). In the first century following, most of the species were preoccupied with adapting to the new split continent. While most Sylphs and Meeren stayed in their original territories, the Etoilange and Jovene populations began to immigrate into Kumo. The Yangwai, feeling obligated to ensure Empyr remained sealed, began immigrating into what would later by Diyu.

The species were unsure what to do about what was formerly Empyre, so it was decided by those most heavily involved in the conflict that it would become Terres. A annual summit would be held in the province to cover any important events with each province sending two representatives.

The Fracture

Due to the departure of the other two Gods, the sealing magic on Empyr weakened. With tensions high between the species, the continent of Edan was fractured during the changing of shifts of two prison guards (97 N.E.). While Empyr was unable to escape, his attempt permanently split Edan into two continents: Greater Edan and Diyu, which fell below the other continental piece.

Many lives were lost during this event as Edanfolk living on the borders of the two continents fell into the Chasm. The two prison guards, a Yangwai and a Sylph, that were exchanging places during the Fracture were both publicly slandered and faced extreme public backlash. News outlets began to attack both species, reducing them to negative stereotypes.

Rising Tensions

Many Edanfolk began to pick "sides" in the controversy. While Jovenes and Aesht'fritun tended to side with the Yangwai, a large portion of the Etoilange population sided with the Sylphs. Meeren stayed mostly neutral. Due to their large involvement during the sealing of Empyr, the Etoilanges held a large amount of power over how the incident was portrayed.

By 112 N.E., most Yangwai had been driven out of Greater Edan. As a result, Diyu became incredibly densely populated, as a large Aesht'fritun population already existed there. Both discontent with their living conditions, the first Diyese militia was formed.

Outreak of War

On 37 Fall 134 N.E., the Diyese Forces launched an attack on Terres. As the species had been living primarily in peace up to this point, the Edanfolk living in Terres were largely unprepared for war. The only formal army that had existed up until this point was the Greater Edan Forces consisting of the Etoilanges and Meeren involved in the sealing.

The Meeren, despite losing lives in the conflict, still refused to get involved and retired to Danna, where they knew they could not be attacked easily.

This left only the Sylphs and Etoilanges to defend Terres, as the Jovenes primarily sided with the Diyese Forces (although at this point, they chose not to personally join the conflict) or left to Kumo. Thus, the Sylven Army was formed to defend Terres and neighboring territories.

On 22 Winter 136 N.E., the Sylven Army launched a counter-attack against the Diyese Forces. The Diyese Forces had been a largely unorganized group of volunteer fighters that relied heavily on surprise attacks. However, the Sylven Army had the expertise of Etoilanges that had served in the Greater Edan Forces. The Diyese Forces quickly suffered large losses as the Sylven Army continued to regain lost territory.

While the Diyese Forces had been a detached group, the loss of lives at the hands of the Sylven Army caused an uproar in the upper echelons of Yangwai society. The Yangwai at this point in time were heavily segregated by economic status, with the Diyese Forces consisting of extremely poor Yangwai while the wealthier Yangwai had been largely uninvolved.

A New Alliance

On 42 Spring 257 N.E., the Sylven Army launched their most costly battle yet, taking the lives of a large amount of Yangwai and Aesht'fritun. This was the turning point in the War, as ten of the most influential Yangwai during this time banded together to form the SDSN, a third militant group. These ten Yangwai would later go on to form the Ten Noble families.

The SDSN quickly regained land ceded to the Sylven Army and re-balanced the tides of war. Contrary to the Diyese Forces, the SDSN also had economic connections with leaders in the Etoilange community in Kumo and used this to gain superior military technology through trade. However, this caused a rift between the Etoilanges, with those residing in Kumo supporting the SDSN and those residing in Greater Edan supporting the Sylven Army.

The Diyese Forces would expand to include Jovenes as well. The SDSN recruited a large portion of both Kumoan Etoilanges and Kumoan Jovenes. The Sylven Army remained mostly Sylphs and Edanese Etoilanges.

Final Battle

By the Winter of 334 N.E., all three forces were exhausted. The SDSN was able to take over Massu, leading to the surrender of both the Sylven Army and Diyese Forces. The three forces agreed to a final summit in Terres to decide the outcomes of the war.

Between 12-15 Spring 335 N.E., the three forces met in Terres. The SDSN, being the most powerful force in the conflict, led the summit. By the end of the summit, it was decided that Greater Edan was to open its borders to all immigrants. Many Edanese Etoilanges were unhappy about this, leading to an influx of immigration into Kumo.

Modern Era

The current setting for Edan. With rebuild efforts after the Great War being almost complete, the six species are beginning to interact with each other more and more as borders become less and less distinct. The sharing of technologies and magic between the different species has resulted in exponential growth across all parts of the land... although the cutting edge technology comes with new problems.

Following the last summit, each province within the three continents began efforts to rebuild territories. The Modern Era marked a distinct change in how each Edanfolk identified; while previously there were sharp borders between each species, the Modern Era saw most Edanfolk choosing to more-so identify with the province they came from. As a result, certain inter-species conflicts began to die down, although tensions between Greater Edan, Diyu, and Kumo remained high.
